BIO:

Earth Radio are storytellers of a future yet to be realized. This Grand Rapids Future-Soul group consists of Justin Avdek (bass, vox), Hannah Laine (keys, vox), Dutcher Snedeker (keys, synth), and David Ward (drums, percussion). The band formed in 2017 when Avdek brought these unique West Michigan musicians together for a spontaneous recording collaboration, which turned into a progressive project birthed from a shared passion of neo-soul and sonic ingenuity. You’ll hear elements of funk, rock, soul, and progressive jazz, reminiscent of Hiatus Kaiyote, Erykah Badu, Radiohead, and Knower, melded together into a sound that is uniquely Earth Radio.

Earth Radio has shared the stage with The Accidentals, Joe Hertler, Last Gasp Collective, Patty PerShayla, Jackie Venson, Brandon Coleman, The Go Rounds, Flexadecibel, Lipstick Jodi, Desmond Jones, and more nationally touring artists. Their ability to collaborate as multi-instrumentalists leaves room for infinite possibility.

Their self-titled album debuted in March 2018 to much acclaim, with it hitting the top of the charts as WYCE’s most played album that month and receiving “Best Jazz Album of 2018” at the 20th WYCE Jammie Awards. In 2019, Earth Radio released their sophomore record, “Mother’s Breath”, which earned them the Critics Choice Award and “Best Jazz Album of 2019” at the 21st WYCE Jammie Awards alongside the Local Spins "Emerging Artist of the Year" award. After releasing a new single in 2021, the group was seen all around the region at multiple festivals and special events, including debuts at Bliss Fest, Hoxeyville, Cowpie Music Festival, Beaver Island Music Festival, and the newly established Sounds of the Zoo in 2022.

Earth Radio's fourth album Mosaic Dreams was released on March 17, 2023 and features some Michigan musical guests and additional production work by Paul Klimson (Theory One Productions).

Their fifth album, If The Earth Could Speak, will be releasing in 2024 following a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign in late 2023.

MUSIC:

Earth Radio performs original music that extracts essences of many different genres including Neo-Soul, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Metal, Rock, and R&B. Due to their wide influence in music, the group has identified the most with the genre “Future-Soul.” The band formed in August 2017 for the production of their debut, self-titled album Earth Radio. In just two weeks, they wrote and recorded 10 songs, one of which was nominated for Song of The Year in the 2019 Jammie Awards (Mall Walkin'). The following year, they released their second album, titled Mother’s Breath toured around Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio, and played at 8 Michigan music festivals. In 2020, they released Reanimate, which received 3 months on the "Hot Top 5 List" and the "2020 Hot Top 10 Playlist" for Local Spins. In 2021, they released a new single, "After the Plague." Earth Radio's fourth album is an EP titled Mosaic Dreams, which was released on March 17, 2023. They are expecting to release their fifth album within the year, which is an EP that they recorded on a retreat in Vermont . Although it is difficult to define the music produced by Earth Radio, one can expect a soul-filled experience, journeying through the dimensions of sound and mind.

PRESS:

"Earth Radio is a thing that is very hard to create in 2019: a whole new sound under the sun. Cutting-edge jazz grooves collide with deep soul and rock attitude, creating a sound as legit as any cerebral head-trip ensemble but as enjoyable as any corner bar cover band. This is what your head echoes with, if you're lucky... We’re thrilled to have these talented musicians back to the Earthwork Farm!" - EARTHWORK HARVEST GATHERING 9.3.19  CLICK HERE FOR FULL ARTICLE

“Funky and free, Earth Radio flexes its musical muscles on “Mother’s Breath.” A true sonic journey that takes the listener for a mystic ride whether they’re ready or not, the band is clearly making exactly what they want to hear: long songs, extended instrumentals and Hannah Laine’s stratospheric lead vocals charting course for the moon or beyond. From the opening title track (a nine-minute excursion), the group’s instrumental agility is certain, and their range of musical acrobatics are showcased seamlessly. A couple of tracks later, “Go” infuses a bevy of world percussion alongside elements of jazz for a luxurious track. Laine sings like a colorful bird on the highest limb of a spring-bound tree. This band is poised for a long career, and they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. For that we’re thankful.” -  RICKY OLMOS LOCAL SPINS 7.25.19  CLICK HERE FOR FULL ARTICLE

“The Grand Rapids band’s unique studio debut and robust live shows have turned heads and brought a fresh light to the region’s music scene. That’s why Earth Radio has been named the Local Spins Emerging Artist of the Year for 2018.”
